Maths Concept: Addition with regrouping

These following steps are taught to the pupils.  Please help to reinforce.

Step 1) Add the ones.  4 + 7

        1  4

     + 1  7

 

                         4 + 7 = 11

                                  = 1 ten 1 one

Step 2) Put "1" under "7"

        1  4

     + 1  7

            1

Step 3)  Put a "1" above the top "1"

 

       1

        1  4

     + 1  7

            1

Step 4) Add the tens.    (1 + 1 + 1)

        1 + 1 + 1 = 3

       1

        1  4

     + 1  7

            1

Step 5) Place "3" under the bottom "1"

       1

        1  4

     + 1  7

        3   1

Please emphasize step 2 and step 3.
